Council establishes committee to address looming 2027 budget deficit

Beverly City Council created a temporary Special Committee to explore options for addressing a forecasted 2027 budget deficit in a unanimous vote at its March 2 meeting. President Julie R. Flowers and the nine-member council also unanimously approved a $1,300 grant from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for medication collection at the Police Station, a three-year mechanic garage lease for $35,376 annually with 51 Park Street LLC, and the appointment of Sarah M.
Kirker as Clerk of Committees. The council set a public hearing for March 16 on a $241,250 inter-departmental transfer to fund retroactive compensation adjustments for Department of Public Services employees dating to July 1, 2024. The council also approved renewal licenses for a pawnbroker and second-hand dealer business at 77 Bridge Street and recessed four infrastructure petitions to April.
