Beverly's Special Committee on Rental Policies refined a short-term rental presentation for a public forum scheduled April 8, 2026. Rachel Brown recommended adding zoning ordinance definitions for "dwelling" and "transient lodging" to the presentation and a slide on other communities that have banned short-term rentals; members also approved a one-page handout with definitions and agreed to include a Google Form for public feedback. Captain Jacob Kreyling reported that the Health, Building, and Fire Departments coordinate enforcement by notifying property owners of compliance steps when discovering unlicensed lodging houses, citing Salisbury and Newburyport as municipalities with strong enforcement relationships.
Attendee Burt Freedman described parking problems from a neighboring two-unit short-term rental and suggested the Committee consider excluding short-term rentals from certain neighborhoods.
