BEVERLY -- A committee working on budget-savings recommendations said a constituent had written in asking "is it time to sell Heard Stadium," questioning whether the city should part with the lighted field and invest elsewhere. Other constituent suggestions raised alongside it included selling city golf course land and the airport. Committee members said these "unpopular sounding" ideas would be presented to the public as a list for discussion, not as formal recommendations, since the committee does not set policy.

A separate idea discussed was leasing out the bathhouse building at Dane Street Beach as a snack shack. Members noted that facility operates under an enterprise fund, and cautioned that any resulting revenue could not simply be shifted to cover the city's general budget deficit without a formal reallocation.

The committee said it had reserved October 20 for its presentation and was discussing holding a public question-and-answer session at the senior center, a location members said had hosted large meetings before. One member suggested giving each speaker two to three minutes, though the format had not been finalized.

YOUTH LEAGUES -- Beverly Little League's website shows Fall Ball registration open for its clinics and sandlot programs, the league's fall season offering.
