Planning Board · Meeting of May 26, 2026
Beverly Planning Board unanimously recommends adoption of ADU ordinance amendments and elects George Gomes Chair. The amendments would align local accessory dwelling unit rules with state law under the Acts of 2024, allowing ADUs in single-family zones, eliminating owner-occupancy requirements, and prohibiting mandatory parking within one-half mile of transit stations. Assistant Director of Planning Kenneth Clawson noted that since the ADU bylaw passed in December 2023, 35 to 37 units have been created locally.
Gomes was elected Chair on a 5-0-1 vote with Gomes abstaining, succeeding Outgoing Chair Derek Beckwith, who announced his resignation effective June 30.
