Beverly School Committee unanimously accepts superintendent's retirement letter

BEVERLY — January 22, 2025 — Beverly's longtime superintendent announces retirement, triggering a district leadership search. The Beverly School Committee voted 7-0 at its January 22 meeting to accept a formal retirement letter from Superintendent Sue Charochak, who announced she will leave the district effective June 30, 2025, at the close of her current contract, after nearly three decades of service. Chair Rachel Abel made the motion, which was seconded by committee member Jeffrey Silva and approved unanimously on a roll call that included Mayor Paul Cahill, Kimberly Quo, Kenan McKenzie DeFranza, Karen Robinson, Jeffrey Silva, and Lorenda Viznik. The committee also voted 7-0 earlier in the evening to enter executive session on collective bargaining strategy with the Beverly Teachers Association, Units A, B, and C. Abel said the board plans to meet as soon as January 29 to outline plans for forming a search committee and launching a superintendent search.
