Beverly School Committee revoted its fiscal 2027 budget and adopted a new AI deepfake policy at its final meeting of the school year. Members voted 5-4 to accept an $89,876,235 school budget appropriation, $3,621 higher than the figure the committee approved in May, after Superintendent Dr. Cushing said legal counsel advised a revote wasn't technically required.
Member Ms. Ducharme said she was "disappointed that the fiscal reality of our community is that we can't seem to get around funding" the district's critical needs. The committee separately voted 9-0 to adopt a revised policy barring AI-generated deepfakes involving students, staff and committee members, and voted 8-0 by roll call to enter executive session over pending litigation and collective bargaining.
Cushing also outlined a planned special education audit, with proposals due roughly six weeks after the RFP's publication.
