Beverly Council Honors Hannah Principal, Advances Three National Grid Permits

BEVERLY — November 22, 2021 — Beverly City Council unanimously honored Hannah Elementary principal and approved a slate of utility and budget items Monday night. The council voted 8 to 0 to adopt a joint resolution celebrating Principal Gabrielle Montevecchi's induction into Salem State University's Northeast Regional Educators Hall of Fame, with students, parents, and faculty filling the chamber. The council also cleared three separate National Grid public hearings for utility work in Wards 1 and 2, all approved 8 to 0. Mayor Michael Cahill's communications included a request for a $205,547 budget transfer into the Fire Department to fund a new memorandum of agreement with the firefighters union covering fiscal years 2022 through 2024 — a public hearing on that transfer was set for December 6 at 7:15 p.m. Also referred to committee: a $33,000 state recycling grant, a $5,000 Senior Center donation from resident Peter Coleman, and a request to set a December 6 tax levy public hearing. Final passage was granted to a COVID-related ordinance amendment extending employee vacation carryover through April 30, 2022.
